Taho, fishball at luto ni nanay
Food! That’s what I miss most from the Philippines. Food, anytime, anywhere, at any price. Nothing beats downing a steaming cup of taho on an early morning walk to the office. And fishball! My all-time favorite junk food. Fishball with sweet and sour sauce, fishball in vinegar, and fishball in that special sauce which I was not able to replicate no matter what I did.
In our household, weekends mean sinigang, nilaga, grilled pork chops with patis, mangga at kamatis, tahong or talaba whenever there’s no red tide. Oh yeah, and sometimes a good piece of lechon from the market. I miss my mom’s coooking, simple fares they may be. These days I heard she’s been experimenting with apples with her chicken, and various seasonings on her meat. Turning quite cosmopolitan, my mom [ha ha]. But I would prefer her sinigang na baboy, sinampalukang manok and steaming white rice any time of the day. Oh and yeah, those stone crabs cooked in crab fat and chili….yum!
