Body Jewelry

Back in the days, coming to school with painted nails can be cause for a trip to the school principal’s office. Guys sporting hair longer than their collared uniforms were subjected to on-spot barbering. Such were the workings of a Catholic school environment. And we were all good sons and daughters of Saint Paul.
Fast-forward 20 years later, the school is still strict, but kids are just getting wilder. I’ve seen girls (AND guys) with multiple-pierced ears, not that they would ever dare wear their multiple earrings while in school, the threat of suspension is still enough to keep them in line.

Switch location, here in the US, body piercings among kids does not seem to raise an eyebrow, except among kids scrutinizing each other’s body jewelry. I bumped into an old high school friend and her daughter a few weeks, the kid has maybe four piercings on just one ear and she’s only in 4th grade. I heard she also had her belly button pierced (ouch!) and they were actually shopping for cool body jewelry, now that summer is just a breathe away.

LOL, I’m definitely a misfit in this town, a relic … when my friend saw my shocked look, she was like, oh it’s no big deal, all kids are doing that … umm … not MY kid or I swear I’ll lock them up in a convent and throw away the key.
