SecureZip - Protecting Your Data
I was browsing through PPP opportunities to see what’s new and what’s worth checking out [lol, it's becoming my new stumbleupon network] when I noticed an advertisement for SecureZip by PKWare.
Now, I already have the standard WinZip from Windows and Rob has a gazillion little programs he use for backing up data and encrypting whatever. But I mentioned it anyway, he scanned and said, “oh how cool”. That’s my cue for giving it a try. Yes, I trust this geek [not only because I adore him but he is actually a whiz at computers].
On to www.securezip.com I went, reading about SecureZIP - The next generation of ZIP and data security and decided to download it. Easy and fast download, you’ll need your full email address though so you can receive your download instructions.
Well, SecureZip is at least one-step above Window’s regular encryption program [not that it takes a lot to top a Windows program], with stronger encryption algorithm, and it “works seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook to automatically encrypt, digitally sign and zip email messages and attachments” for safe transmission. You can read up on an extensive review done by PC Magazine at their web site, but from what I’m reading, this program is worth a try for home and home office needs. It creates a secure backup of your data, has the ability to split and segment files in cases of larger volumes of data needed to be backed up [you'll need a third party program to burn these into CD/DVDs] and automatically encrypts your data for transmission through email.
The part I like the best is that is free for a limited time offer. It does not have some features that WinZip Pro has such as scheduling your back up jobs but that’s not a biggie and WinZip Pro requires a paid license to do all those, this one doesn’t … yet.
