Bringing the Classroom Closer to Home
Distance learning has been around for years, with home schooling and correspondence school. Internet technology brings a whole new meaning to distance learning though.
More and more, traditional institutions have incorporated online curriculum to supplement their regular classroom teaching. In fact, when I decided to pursue additional degree at a college in Minneapolis, finding out that they offer online classes, I opted to take those. Busy people or those who have jobs and responsibilities whose schedules prevent them from attending regular classes will find the convenience and interactivity online classrooms bring very appealing. Though, in order to make it a success, one has to perfect the art of time management and articulation because participation is a must. If you can be comfortable without face-to-face interaction with your classmates and professors then learning can be very fruitful in online classes. It not only give you time to digest every discussion that is posted online but allows you time to formulate and properly articulate your ideas.
These days, colleges and universities like Capella University, based in Minneapolis, is a fully online university offering graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, human services, and psychology. they also have bachelor’s degree programs in business and information technology.
Interestingly, one of their Business Tech faculty members, Sara Orem, co-authored a book titled “Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change.” There are always new approaches to dealing with organizations, the same way that the internet offers new ways to dealing with traditional classroom concepts. Much like in online classrooms, this book touches on the thoughtful use of empowering individuals to articulate and show off their strengths creating a more valuable contribution to the group.
If you are thinking of finally finishing that degree or taking additional courses now is the time to seriously think about it, there are so many ways to finance an education [I am on a deferred payment plan, no loans for me but I get to pay in sections] and so many ways to accomplish your goal with online tools.
