That Time of The Year Again

… when you have to prepare your backyard for endless summer barbecue. Last year I was on my hand and knees soaping and scrubbing the deck to get rid of those slimy green stuff that stick to the wood during the off-season months.

I was halfway through working on the deck floors when I stopped and asked if I can help rebuild a deck for our friend’s father. Figured I might as well learn some do-it-yourself projects while I’m here. It does look cute and fun to see American families doing their own remodelling work, mostly unheard of in my part of the world [or at least my family back home] .

It was actually cool, I got to cut wood, nail planks and wear a carpenter’s belt! But I should have known that the bulk of my work would be … yes, cleaning the deck. Waaaah. Luckily, they have a pressure washer they brought over from the marina and Rob taught me how to use it. It was the best thing I’ve ever found out for cleaning. A chore that would have taken me days was done in half a day AND the wood and shingles look almost brand new!

When we came home and I once again had to tackle our deck, of course I want to use a pressure washer [spoiled brat]. But the annoying thing about pressure washers is that they stink when you get too close because they use gasoline to fuel them. That and the noise [the one I worked with had 3000 PSi or something], it was making me mad about how loud they can be.

This year I am bent on cleaning out the deck and the shingles with a pressure washer and hopefully one of our friends will have one handy. Curious cat that I am, I was checking them out online. I found that there are electric pressure washers you can purchase, but this Car Garage Guy is promoting it for garage and car washing [figures, his web site is about cars and garages]. I think that is cool. Imagine, no more buying expensive gasoline, no stinky fuel smell, you just plug it to recharge and you’re good to go. And they come with other gadgets too, like a foamer [for soap I guess], regular brush, reciprocating brush, rotating brush, sandblaster hose, etc etc etc. Hah. I would be a car wash girl in the middle of Rte 6 flagging down cars for a wash down. Could be fun!
