End of Summer Great Buys

Labor Day Weekend is coming up … which means … SALE GALORE!

One of the weird things I learned when I first came to the US is that my relatives do BIG shopping for the season’s clothes, furnitures, accessories, etc. during the last days of the season [except day after Thanksgiving, when Shopping is the order of the day no matter the season].

They say it’s the best way to stock up on essentials for the season once it comes around again. I say isn’t that a wasteful thing to do because new summer clothes will then have to be put away in boxes, sitting out three seasons before it can be aired again?

But then, as the seasons go by, I am learning too that yes, there is merit to this type of shopping. I mean, back home in the Philippines, we shop when we want to shop or when we need something, and the things we buy we can always use [umm, maybe because we only have two seasons and both of them warm?!] .

Anyway, this summer I barely set foot outside the house. The last yard work I did was at the beginning of Spring when my belly was still small and my mood swings manageable. Now that summer’s all over, my belly is shrinking and the tiny bundle of joy we love to call “crustini” is set and will most likely be up to running around the yard by summer next year, I’ve been looking at the sorry state of our backyard.

The grass is cut, the debris cleared up, but it’s blah. There’s a swing set left by the previous renters and piles and piles of wood drying out for the fireplace. The place certainly needs a lot of “oomph” to interest a child and to be ready for entertaining next season.

Luckily, I found this online discount mart which is currently selling marked down summer items. Maybe I’ll go for this Crow Man [pictured left], or windmills. Now that should help cool down the place. Or maybe I’ll go for this patch dog figurine. The “… amusing dog sculpture (came) from the talented artisans at the Breed Apart Collection, Patch is ready to guard your most precious office supplies, or just sit on the mantel and look intelligent …”
OnlineDiscountMart.com actually has cool stuff even for halloween. I like this Jack-O-Lantern they have, it has that impish character that is fun for kids. And for $19.95 it’s worth it.
