Chatting With A Difference
Bill Gates’ philanthropy sure is rubbing on Microsoft. i’m is Windows newest initiative in marketing its chatting software - Windows Live Messenger - with a difference.
“Every time you start a conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program’s advertising revenue with some of the world’s most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We’ve set no cap on the amount we’ll donate to each organization. The sky’s the limit.” — http://im.live.com/Messenger/IM/Home/?source=WLM180×60
The range of causes includes poverty alleviation, child protection, disease, environmental degradation, breast cancer [I'm still if-fy about Susan G. Kommen foundation] and others.
Clever way to spread the new messenger, huh. Now, how do they figure the donations and returns and where do they get the money? I just noticed something nifty that the new messenger added to its individual chat windows. See, when you log in to your messenger and started a conversation window, you’ll see an advert displayed at the bottom of your screen, non-intrusive and integrates well with the chat screen.
If you already have the new messenger, all you have to do is modify your options to display the i’m logo and at the same time choose the cause you want to support.
Is it just me, or when I try to sign up for a new Windows Live login, the first country that came up [in caps] was the Philippines. Is MSN marketing to asia more than the US? Hmmmnn.. maybe we can also manage to get the country’s non-profit on board if enough Filipinos support i’m.
