Glorietta Mall Blast
This is one of the times when I am thankful and feeling awful that I am away from home. At 1:30 PM Friday [1:30AM US EST], a huge explosion ripped through Glorietta 2 in the financial district of Makati City.
Though Glorietta 2 is the older part of the chain of Ayala Malls, it is nonetheless right in the center of the mall chain and houses a fair amount of shops and sees a lot of shoppers and passers by going through its doors. Apparently, a bomb was set off which brought down walls and parts of the roof spanning three stories.
For anyone unfamiliar with building structures in the Philippines, buildings and houses are usually made of cement, iron steel and galvanized iron with reinforced foundations and insulations. So a blast of this magnitude would probably have flattened out a strip of Provincetown.
I can’t help but be horrified since I use to live in Makati, within walking distance of that mall and I use to go there A LOT. Detonating a bomb in the financial district is a big message and ominously, this one seems to just be a “welcome” address. I don’t know anymore whether I should believe that the Islamic extremists did this or the stupid extremists that perpetually want to oust Gloria [will you just let the girl finish her term and shut up?!].
Very sad. Very disappointing. That should scare more investors away if they weren’t scared already by loudmouths like somebody I know who’s main goal is to bring down the government without a feasible, workable and REALISTIC program to replace the system. I mean, kid, even if you replace the government with your socialist/communist mode of governance, do you really believe the large majority would accept it? You’re counting on the “masses” to propel your “gods” to power, but the masses are jaded and can be “bought”. It’s so IRRITATING, that sociologists push this kind of shenanigan when they should know better. Unless you have a truly charismatic leader who’s accepted by EVERYONE then you won’t really have significant change. Stop being idealistic and do something constructive for a change.
Meanwhile, I send my condolences to anyone who’s lost a loved one to this horrific event. These things won’t stop from happening any time soon but hopefully, Filipinos will be more vigilant and start working together instead of against each other to lift our country out of the dump.
