Against other blogs that is.

When IZEARanks.com was launched, I was and still am a little skeptical as to its success. Izea Ranks professes to provide real rank to your blog vis-a-vis other blogs with up to date reporting of your daily blog activities. The script, a javascript, calculates page views, daily visitors and active links to return a more realistic view of a blog’s reach and “authority”.

Izea clarifies that the code is different from PayPerPost which was hit by Google so I guess that means it’s better. I subscribed to Izea Ranks a couple of weeks ago because I’d like to see where I’m ranked against other posties in the PayPerPost community. And that’s where IzeaRanks become if-fy.

In order to be ranked, you’d have to have the script, and though the calculations may be better than that of Google or Alexa, it still ranks you only against other blogs. I have a “non-blog” web site that was essentially not accepted to Izea precisely because it wasn’t using a blog platform or in a blog format. So I am unable to track visits using Izsearanks calculations on that one.

My current Izea rank is “1064″, pretty big leap from 5692++ a month ago and this means I have a Real Rank of 7 or 8 allowing me to qualify for better opps in the PPP marketplace. It also means my audience is growing.

Another downside of this real ranking is the fact that your ranking is very variable. If you’ve been having a bad day or week and not a lot of visitors come by or are able to access your blog, then your RR plummets during that time. Ouch. Does that mean your authority just diminished and if a report happened to be made on that particular time, would that negatively impact your blog reach?

On the other hand, Izea rankings, if you participate to see how you do against the system, then it keeps you on your toes as far as working on your blog, marketing for wider reach, etc etc etc.

It’s not perfect but it’s still a new way to track your blog traffic. Oh, and Izea is supposed to give away $1000 to the #1 RR for the week. Nice incentive for installing IZEARanks huh.
