First Viral Film Festival
Simply put, viral means spreading fast through sharing. From the hippo singing to episodes of Saturday Night Live to Bush and Blair singing “Endless Love”, these short clips of often humorous videos gain popularity by being shared through email, IM messages, blogs and other social networking sites where members can embed video.
What started out as mostly amateur videos shot with camera phones or digital cameras to be shared with family and friends through the internet, viral video is fast becoming a venue for alternative marketing and a new playground for aspiring film producers, directors and writers [e.g., Youtube's "lonely girl"]. I remember Pepsi attempting to use this medium with their pre-superbowl release of a commercial starring deaf actors [who happens to be Pepsi employees].
It is only fitting then that a gathering follows where the best of the crop of video publishers will be honored and shown at a film festival. This year’s Viral Film Festival will be held in New York on april 28th organized by Culture-Buzz and BeFilm Underground with support from Dailymotion.com
Submissions are being accepted at www.viralfilmfestival.com. You can also get more information on the Festival in this web site. Okay crustini, time to get out the cam. Weeeee.
