Project Green Thumb
It’s Spring time again. Oh bliss! It’s around this time I begin to miss Minnesota for the parks and lakes that are coming to life again. Provincetown is mostly brush, dunes and beaches [lol, what a dilemma].
Seriously though, I wish there are more patches of green around the community.
Back in Minnie, neighborhoods would pitch in to maintain median gardens [you know, the ones where they have a patch of triangle garden at corners or intersections to separate traffic flow ... ].
It is welcome news to learn about Fiskars 2008 Project Orange Thumb which gives communities a grant to create and maintain community spaces devoted to gardening. Thirteen communities were chosen from roughly 500 applicants through a unique selection process that involved entries using videos, music and artwork to present their case. You can view a list of grant recipients on Fiskars’ web site.
Community gardens not only bring together the community who works on it but brings their creative work to the whole neighborhood and those passing through to appreciate and provide a refreshing eye candy.
Fiskars is widely known for its high quality scissors for crafts and great garden tools.

That’s a really nice thing Friskars is doing. I only picture them doing event/grants that lean more so towards genealogy and scrapbooking.
Programs like this are fantastic. Bringing people together and making a difference in the environment around them is wonderful news.
