Northwest Merges with Delta Air Lines
I just had to write about it.
As a WorldPerks member, I received this in my email: “Announcing Northwest’s merger with Delta Air Lines”. The new company will be called “Delta”.
My family’s from Minnesota. Northwest Airlines is synonymous with good ol’ minnie. My relatives moved to MN when there were maybe like, 1 other Filipino there and my uncle happen to have married her? Seriously, there were probably less than a hundred Filipinos when they came. In the whole of the state.
It was a time when you either worked at the airline or at the Mayo clinic.
Some time ago, I also received an email saying NWA was coming out of bankruptcy and I was ecstatic. I have to admit, they are an expensive ride and it didn’t help that they’ve had union problems which added to their money woes. The merger with Delta “helps offset record oil prices, creates stronger global airline to compete in Open Skies environment“.
Does this mean their prices will also drop?
With Delta’s South, West, Northeast and Europe market combines well with Northwest’s Midwest, Canada and Asia market to make their partnership a very lucrative one.
NWA has been flying since 1926. I sincerely hope they will not change the airline names but just have a mother company running the two airlines. Have you ever flown into Minneapolis-St. Paul’s airport in Bloomington? It’s beautiful.
My other favorite airline, ATA, has just folded. American Airlines is currently being whacked with FAA security regulations. Oh the woes to travellers. At a time when we should be encouraging domestic travel and commerce.
Troubling times.
