Going Green With Silk
Mention artificial plants and five years ago my reaction would be “Eeeeeeeeew Nuh uh” “uh uh” “nope … eew eew”
But these days, silk plants are looking more interesting, economical and “green”. Whereas before artificial flowers and plants come in cheesy run-down diner plastic, they now come in a variety of high quality materials, most aesthetic of which is silk.
Just look at this midget willow tree, it does look, well, life-like. At artificialplantsandtrees.com, you’ll find a variety of plants and flowers and they come in all sizes and shapes!
I’m still fortunate that I can still afford to have real houseplants but living in a basement apartment [don't worry, it's tastefully done and has a walkout, so the baby's not living in a dungeon] does curtail sunlight unlike in our previous rental home which was awash with day light every day [even on days I don't exactly feel for them].
This is a common problem not only in basement apartments but in high rise units as well. Add to that, the rising numbers of allergy sufferers give artificial plants plus points. Of course you’ll still need to maintain them with periodic dusting or washing but they eliminate pollen and still provide that “greenery effect” to your environment.
The one thing that limits artificial plants’ ability is its lack of “natural” oxygen and “cleansing” effect to your environment but heck, you have a gazillion HEPA filter available in the market.
