Island Getaway

It’s Single Women’s Weekend last weekend, (Provincetown) life is a cabaret … the farmer’s market is now open … and the weather is suddenly warm. Summer must be here. Weeee!

But these days I’m seeing more and more local destinations being advertised to local travellers. Must be boon times for local resorts and domestic getaways, what with the dollar plummeting and the tourist economy could use a boost from consumer spending [calling all rebate checks!].

One of the many places I’m seeing being advertised to would-be travelers is hilton head island in South Carolina. It’s not as if I’m surrounded by three quarters of beaches and then there’s Nantucket and Martha’s vineyard if I want an island getaway. But then again, you can just have so much local scenery sometimes and it’s a nice thought to escape to the south specially when I’m straight and the glbt community is upon us. I’m just in their way.

Calling the big crustini, mommy has not been on a vacation in a loooooooooooong while. A LOOOOOOOOOOONG while.

Back to hilton head south carolina, the beaches look divine and the rental properties elegant. Even includes a golf course [not that I ever hit the ball much as I try]. We have whales around here, they have dolphins. We fly kites in the summer, they do parasailing out there. We have non-stop street perfromances and they have live shows and children face painting. We have the big fourth of July fireworks and they seem to do that on a regular basis. And talk about parks, all we have is sand and dunes and shrub.

Wait a minute … should I be REALLY be telling you this when I heart my tiny piece of Cape Cod? This town is as unique as you’ll ever find in the US so I’m confident your mouth will drop at least once if you visit in the summer =)
