Hubba Father’s Day!

It’s hubba’s first father’s day yesterday and as you can imagine with first time dads, he’s thrilled to the bones specially when he saw the father’s day card baby crustini gave him.

It was a happy day yesterday … but I can’t help but feel a touch of sadness. Don’t get me wrong, hubba makes me happy and I’m like smiling a lot because hey, it was my first Mommy’s day and now his first Papa day and soon enough it will be the baby’s first Baba day!

It’s my hubba’s first father’s day yesterday … eight years ago  it was my daddy’s last Father’s Day celebration (June 18th 2000 to be exact) where he was named “Father Of The Year” by our parish community. Four days after, he passed away. Father’s Day weekend was the last time we would all be together as a family.

Gaaaah. Allow me to be sappy for a minute please. At least - I try to tell myself over and over - he didn’t suffer much. He was still up and about the day before he passed away though he had been deteriorating due to his illness (kidney/liver). And he did have my mom at his side until the end. Isn’t it just beautiful to have your loved one at your side at the end of your day and the last words you leave them with is “I love You”.

Anyway, moral of the story - whether you’re feeling healthy or not, have yourself tested for Hepatitis A, B & C. It’s a disease that just lingers and doesn’t manifest until it has already damaged your liver. The good thing is there’s a better fighting chance now for people with this condition, unlike eight years ago, so do your children and your loved ones a favor and have yourself checked.

I’m with you. Everyone should be tested. And regularly. Your Dad sounds like he was a heck of a guy.

Baby crustini? I guess I need to read your blog more often. :)

Maria says: Thanks! He was. it was a blessing he lived 2 years longer than his prognosis. We miss him a lot. The crustini baby is chugging along in his Jeep liberty as I write =) Do come back!
