I know that a lot of people using Entrecard are or were from the University of the Philippines and some of you may have come from UPLB (Los Banos).
If you’ve had the good fortune to cross paths with Dr. Lamug, met her, been in her class, had her as your adviser, befriended her, I’m sure your life had been touched ion one way or another.
I just received an email saying that Dr. Lamug passed away (she presumably had been in a drowning accident off Coron Island [Palawan]. Her remains will be brought at St. Therese’s chapel (in UPLB campus) tomorrow, Tuesday September 29th. I am not sure how long her wake will be but you can probably check with the UPLB Department of Sociology or something.
I credit “Doc” Lamug for opening my eyes on the issue of women abuse in general and in women in the Philippines in particular while taking her Gender Relations class back in the 90’s. Together with Ma’m Arlene, she’s one of the most approachable and respectable professor I’ve come across in all my years in UP.
If you have the chance, do spread the word so others who can, will be able to pay their respects at the wake.

hi! sad news, isn’t it!
just came from st. therese, and there were plenty of people there–students, the faculty, friends and even the chancellor was there..
we were supposed to meet dean lamug tomorrow for our last class in 195. obviously, we won’t be meeting her tomorrow. the news took me by surprise. she’s just of those profs from the dept whom i really look up to. prof. cabanilla made a statement regarding on what happened last sunday, but i still found it too confusing or maybe i still do not want to believe that mam’s gone. sad..great loss. but i rather believe prof cabanilla— it was a beautiful death.
farewell dean!!
