Granted it’s becoming “showbiz” (politics of personalities), the US election is not for shallow discourse of people who are not involved in day to day lives of people here (meaning, they’re like a gazillion miles away), nor is it for those who are not familiar with the issues.
I was just chatting with one friend earlier and he was like, “Oh My God Obama will win the election!, he has to, we are all rooting for him“.
I asked him why … “well, he’s going to change everything“.
Seriously? Like, REALLY?
As in had Ninoy Aquino been alive he’d have cast a magic spell and voila the Philippines would be shooting to the top of the world charts for everything?
Get real. Why do Filipinos really like Obama?
They hate McCain because of the misinformation about his stance on immigration. They like Obama beause … ummm, well … he talks nice?
Talk is cheap.
Gaaaah. I shouldn’t even be talking politics in this blog. But I can’t really help it.
What are the issues? Do you really know what’s happening in the US and why there is a mortgage meltdown? Have you heard of the practice irresponsible lending and irresponsible borrowing? Of people who purposely default and go on foreclosure just so they could buy a new house with cheaper mortgage?
Do Filipinos back home really know what mortgage is about?
And do they know that Obama is pro choice (meaning abortion is A-okay) when a majority of Filipinos are against it?
So please, don’t rely on the ads, don’t be so easy as to be hooked by those spin doctors.
Whoever wins, it’s the same old problem. When the fabric of the littlest community unit – the family – had been invaded and broken apart by the government with too many laws and too much meddling, the moral fibre of the society weakens (values and priniples) and it takes poeple in directions they wouldn’t have gone had it been a different scenario.
When you strip after school programs, perpetuate absolute consumerism as the basis of economy, pegged your everyday life on credit, it’s something that one man alone would not be able to change. Presidents come and go, thy take countries to war, or they propel it to the cyber age .. when they leave office, they’re rewarded with their own presidential libraries and museums … but the real people who holds the fabric of society remains, it’s you and I and the many workers and professionals who don’t have tenure on our responsibilities.
Get your facts right, at least know your issues and where you really stand in terms of your present and future. Then make a decisive opinion. Otherwise, blog about something else.
Yes, I’m in a pissy mood =)
