Ms. Blogger I’m Confused. That’s actually a polite way of putting it.

The not-so-polite way would be, “what the H are you F-ing talking about girl?!

=)

A lot of bloggers set out to pick a niche topic and proceed to blog the horse to death in the hopes that they’d be breaking the bank real soon with the gazillion articles they post each day and the bazillion drop-dropping they do at Entrecard.

Seriously though, do you know what you’re talking about? Or is it a race to create fillers so as to get those Paid posts? That’s at least six articles a day if you’re a dedicated pay per post-er.

Well and good if you have personal blogs. After all, who knows your life better than you. But when you move on to blogging about, oh dear, making money on the internet, SEO, FINANCE (have you heard, there’s a lynch mob out there. run!), credit cards, etc etc etc, then you’d be liable to get that blank look.

Why? Cos in this blogging game, it’s a known fact that you need traffic in order to build a sustainable community and ergo, a sustainable income. We can discuss to death the many and creative channels to get traffic, but the top question is, do you actually know your niche?

You may have padded traffic from all the hook and bait you do in social networks and EC, but if they can’t see that you actually know what you’re talking about and not just rewriting what everyone is blogging don’t expect those ships passing in the night to make your blog a regular stop over.

It’s kind of hard to preach to your readers if you are, let’s say, a bit clueless about your chosen topic? It’s one thing to rewrite a piece of article you read from the Times, and another to actually understand why AIG is now giving bonuses to those people who screwed up the company in the first place.

Research. Research. Research. Writing a niche topic does not just mean you’re narrowing your area of expertise and making your life easier. It means, you better know what the H you’re talking about before you reach for the keyboard. That, or at least be able to organize a nicely flowing series of information which will benefit the less inscrutable of readers. It does show you know.

Happy Sunday!
