I was reading CNN news this morning when this caught my eye:
Whoa …
I can understand where the music and film industry comes from. Heck, even CNN is suffering cos web sites across the globe including Google syndicates their content, makes money on ads on pages where CNN content are displayed while they pay to churn out those content.
But $1.9M for 24 music downloads? And it’s not even for out of this world megahit bombastic music, no, it’s for No Doubt, Linkin Park, Gloria Estefan and Sheryl Crow. As the article said, it’s 24 music, enough for 3 cd’s. How much does a CD cost these days?
The thing with online copyright infringement and peer to peer file sharing that really bothers me is how can authorities measure the gravity of the situation. Peer-to-peer. Not other companies infringing on copyright to make profit.
It’s like saying, ok I buy my music from *bleep* the company. I am allowed to burn it on CD for personal enjoyment .. but what if I did burn it on CD and decided, what the heck, it would be fun to bring it along for my son’s playdate so they can listen to it. And then we ended up giving the CD to his playmate? That’s file sharing right? What if that friend now shares the damn CD with somebody else? And on and on it went? Oh F! Should I or somebody be sued? Cos really, somebody got hold of it for free and they shared it and *bleep* says it’s supposed to be for my personal enjoyment?
Like, if I rent a movie from *bleep* another company and decided to let the whole community watched it. And somebody retaped the whole thing because hey, they wanted a copy of it (which they have for free now) and somebody happened along and took it from their collection cos it’s supposed to be an interesting movie to watch .. and so on .. and so on …
Why, when it’s offline sharing, music and movie industries don’t go crazy? Is it because the law is vague that people get away with using laws that should not be applicable to the internet? I’m for net neutrality. There, I probably will be on a watch list somewhere. I just don’t understand why people are trying to over police the internet (except for the things that matter – crimes, you know, murder, rape, child abuse, con jobs, fraud, spreading hate and things like that).
Do you know who should be suing big time? Porn producers. Ha Ha.
Seriously.
I mean, I would imagine porn will be the most shared file anywhere in the world. Just think of all the money those porn producers lose every second!

I agree completely, if they want to charge her for the songs, charge her at 99 cents per song. How the hell does anyone determine them to be valued at 1.9 million dollars? It’s so blown out of proportion it’s comical.

yes, unfortunately, there is no defined law for such online transgressions.
