Outside of the rainbow coalition (gays, lesbians, cross-dressers ..), artists and art patrons, not a lot of people know or are interested in going to Provincetown.
Pultizer Prize winners Norman Mailer and Michael Cunningham described Provincetown best:
“Provincetown is the freeist place in America.” – Norman Mailer
“Provincetown is like that man or woman who isn’t your type and yet you find yourself in love anyway.” – Michael Cunningham.
So if you’re not gay, lesbian, cross-dresser, artist, art patron or the likes, why should you watch it? For one, millions of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving each year, and yet only a handful knows that the Pilgrims first landed in Provincetown. For another, Provincetown just made it to Health Magazine’s top 10 best beaches in the US. Then also, Provincetown is really a great destination for everyone. Summer is mostly dominated by gays and lesbians and shoulder months give locals breathing space though more and more people are discovering the beauty of this tiny town during fall, winter, spring.
It does not have the big city appeal, or even the cultured veneer or other more popular destinations in the US but in this quaint village and all over Cape Cod, you’ll find that people who are fierce believers of preserving nature and the environment, discover pristine beaches and dunes and watch whales as they come close enough so onlookers just need to sit on the beach and be awed.
